Florida Weather Overview: What to Expect Year-Round
There’s a reason they call it the Sunshine State.
3 of the 4 seasons, no matter where you are on the panhandle or the peninsula, will have days characterized by bright, hot days and muggy, warm nights.
Having lived in Florida over a decade, here are our takes on each season, and what they have to offer out-of-towners.

Winter in Florida (Dec–Feb): Best Weather & Peak Season
The holidays/winter months are the busiest seasons below Orlando.
Resorts from Miami all the way up the southeast coast are flooded with wannabe snowbirds, and actual snowbirds “home” through the spring.

Naples on the Gulf Coast is another excellent destination far enough south to (almost) guarantee great weather.
In the Panhandle and Jacksonville areas, there is a bit more of a winter, with our last stint in Tallahassee seeing a full inch of snow.
Scary stuff.
Spring in Florida (Mar–May): Best Overall Time to Visit
Spring has guaranteed gorgeous weather from Pensacola to Tampa on the west coast, and Daytona to Boca on the east.
Beach towns are filled to the gills with families on vacation and youngsters on spring break.

AREAS TO AVOID: Daytona, Panama City Beach, and Fort Lauderdale.
The crowds here will not be worth it
Summer in Florida (Jun–Aug): Cheapest Time to Visit (But Hottest)
Summer is the slow season, and the slow season is hot.
With even the snowboards gone till the autumn, many resorts and tourist destinations are borderline ghost towns with low, low prices.

Having worked at a hotel in Florida during this time, I can tell ya there is no better time for an amazing deal on ritzy accommodations.
And honestly, the heat ain’t that bad.
Fall in Florida (Sep–Nov): Fewer Crowds but Hurricane Season
The fall has all the perks of perfect, more temperate weather without any annoying spring breakers or desperate family vacationers.
The days stay below 90 degrees, and you can wear jeans at night without breaking a sweat.

With that being said… we do get them Hurricanes.
It’s impossible to tell when and where they will hit each year.
If you see a deal, we say book it! Most hotels are understanding in the event of storm.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Florida? (Quick Answer)
Christmas through spring break is the classic vacation season and Florida.
Fully staffed tourist bars, shops and inns up and down the state’s southern coasts will provide you with the quintessential beach-getaway you’ve been yearning for.

Summer has the deals, and a quieter, more local vibe for those wanting to see a slower, more authentic Florida.
