Porto is one of those cities that doesn’t require a packed itinerary. It’s compact, walkable, and best experienced with enough time to wander.
If you only have 2 days in Porto, this itinerary covers the major sights, the Douro River, and Vila Nova de Gaia without trying to squeeze too much into your trip.

Day 1: Historic Porto & Ribeira
São Bento Station
Start your morning at São Bento Station, famous for the thousands of blue-and-white tiles covering its main hall.
It’s also conveniently located in the heart of Porto’s historic center.
Clérigos Tower
From São Bento, walk toward Clérigos Tower. If you don’t mind the climb, the top offers one of the best panoramic views over Porto.
Livraria Lello
Next, stop at Livraria Lello, Porto’s famous historic bookstore. It gets extremely busy, so booking ahead is a good idea.
Ribeira
Spend the afternoon wandering downhill toward Ribeira, Porto’s colorful riverfront neighborhood.
Grab lunch, explore the narrow streets, and leave yourself some time to simply walk along the Douro.
Dom Luís I Bridge & Jardim do Morro
Cross the Dom Luís I Bridge into Vila Nova de Gaia.
Finish your first day at Jardim do Morro, where you’ll get a fantastic sunset view across the river toward Porto.
Day 2: Gaia & the Douro
Vila Nova de Gaia
Start Day 2 along the Gaia waterfront, directly across the Douro from Ribeira.
This is also where you’ll find many of Porto’s famous port wine cellars.
Port Wine Cellar
Pick one cellar for a tour and tasting. There’s no need to spend the entire day hopping between them—one good experience is plenty for a short trip.
Gaia Cable Car
Take the Gaia Cable Car for an easy ride above the waterfront and another great view over Porto.
Douro River Cruise
Spend part of the afternoon on a short Douro River cruise.
It’s one of the easiest ways to see Porto, Gaia, and the city’s famous bridges from a completely different perspective.
One Last Walk Through Ribeira
Finish your trip back in Ribeira.
Grab a drink along the river, wander through the historic center, and enjoy your final few hours without worrying about checking another attraction off the list.
Is 2 Days in Porto Enough?
Two days is plenty for a first trip to Porto.
You’ll have enough time to see the historic center, Ribeira, Gaia, the Douro River, and most of the city's biggest attractions.
More importantly, you’ll still have some time to wander—which might be the best thing to do in Porto anyway.
